Rescue dogs of the week

There are still many dogs available for adoption from Camp Doglando, which offered kids ages 10-15 the opportunity to learn how to own a dog responsibly. Starting with what qualities to look for in a pet and working through how and where to acquire the “right” dog, the campers experience first hand what is involved in caring for and training a puppy, all in an effort to increase understanding of what a dog needs to live a happy, healthy life as a companion. Learn more about the dogs and how to adopt them with their photo.

Training Tips

A dog’s life is better off leash. How do you teach your dog to be off leash? There is no command for off-leash training. It’s a relationship-based lifestyle. it requires two things:

-A relationship. a dog that loves, respects and understands its owners and has this relationship because the owner has learned how to properly fulfill their dog’s needs.

-A lifestyle. An owner that continuously, diligently and provides an opportunity for their dog to be a dog and satisfies its dog’s needs every day. it is not based on time, another agenda, weather, fatigue or laziness.

To have a dog you can trust to be off leash requires giving the dog the opportunity to be trusted. from the moment you bring your young puppy home, it is completely capable of imprinting on you, and if given the opportunity, it will. our fear of traffic or the puppy taking off prevents us from ever teaching them to stay by us. There is a reason why all animals are born very small. If you don’t teach the dog when it is slower than you, manageable in size and easier to control, it does not get any easier with age.

Convert to an off-leash lifestyle and you will find yourself enjoying the true pleasures of canine companionship.
