If you aren’t you should consider yourself lucky. but have you thought about how far the reach of this economic situation is? One group that is suffering, but not getting a lot of recognition for it, is animals.

The first reason is that many people have to spend less across the board. for some, they make the decision to get rid of their dog as a way to save on the monthly expenditures for the home. They send the dog to the humane society and hope it will find a new home. The humane society will then keep the dogs for as long as they can, trying to do just that.
Additionally, the tight money situation is stopping many people who would usually be willing to adopt a dog, for now. They figure that they should wait until their monetary situation is a little better before bringing a new pet into their home.
Another reason the humane society is seeing many more dogs is because there are many people who are losing their homes. The foreclosure rates are through the ceiling and that means there are a lot of people who are losing their houses and moving into something more modest. often that means they are moving into apartments. The problem is that many apartments don’t allow dogs and so they are left giving their dog away so they can move in to a more affordable home.
The Need for Dog Supplies
All these extra dogs being sent to the pet shelters has put a major strain on the shelters for pet supplies. from food to bedding and anything else you can think of, the supplies are being used nearly as quickly as they come in.
While humane societies do have a budget, they also rely on a lot of help from the community as well in order to be able to keep things up and running. Unfortunately, during tight times, the help from the community is less and less. Those who used to drop supplies off regularly, are now rarely able to afford those extra cans of food and other dog supplies that are needed.
This is where you can come in. if you are one of the lucky ones who is not in severely tight financial times, you can use your good fortune to help those less fortunate, like animals in your local shelter.
Call them and find out what kinds of dog supplies they are in most dire need of. Chances are they will need anything and everything, but there may be things they are more desperate for. once you know which dog supplies are most vital, do what you can to purchase some and encourage others you know to do the same to help the humane society through this tough time.
