Spiteful ex sentenced to four years
A man who torched his ex-partners home because she’d been a poor house keeper has been sentenced to 4 years jail.
Judge Mark Gamble described it as an act of spiteful revenge.
The County court heard 34 year old Greg Andrew doused his ex-partners bedroom and ensuite in petrol before setting it alight after the pair had an argument in December 2011.
The fire took hold of a large part of the rented house and the woman’s pet dog, a maltese shitzu perished in the blaze.
He pleaded guilty to one count of arson.
The court heard Diver, who has a psychotic disorder, explained his offending because she had criticised him and had not been doing enough housework.
Diver will pay more than $300,015 in compensation for damage to the house.
He’ll serve a minimum 2 years and 10 months.
